Silva’s work is grounded in emotion—the kind that can be difficult to articulate but instantly recognizable when felt. Painting becomes a way of giving those feelings a visual language without needing to define or explain them.
Her practice embraces curiosity, contradiction and the unexpected. Beauty can exist alongside awkwardness, softness alongside chaos, and humour alongside something deeply sentimental. Rather than resolving those tensions, Silva is interested in what happens when they are allowed to exist together.
Above all, the work is created to be felt rather than decoded. Its meaning is never entirely fixed; what begins as something personal can take on a completely different significance through someone else’s memories, experiences and perspective.
The painting holds the feeling. The story belongs to whoever finds themselves in it.

ALLIE SILVA
B. 1994
Allie Silva is a Canadian contemporary artist whose work brings together expressive abstraction and playful visual storytelling. Her paintings are characterized by layered surfaces, gestural mark-making, unexpected imagery and a distinctive approach to colour.
With a background in graphic design and visual communication, Silva brings an intuitive understanding of composition, balance and contrast to her practice. Working primarily through painting, she draws inspiration from music, memory and the details of everyday life, allowing each piece to evolve organically through experimentation.
Silva began painting in 2020 and has since developed a visual language that moves freely between abstraction and recognizable imagery. Her work is bold yet imperfect, balancing considered composition with the spontaneity and curiosity that remain central to her practice.
